You have to be consistent when drawing. Can't give those pesky fabricators any more reasons to pick holes in your drawings
If I have to put a view in a place that is not logical , I always put a BIG note under it saying NOTE DIRECTION OF VIEW.
Amazing how some guys can't see the section arrows on the main elevation
He kept saying, well, its first angle projection... "Yeah...?, I call it wrong angle projection.... put the top view at the top and the bottom view at the bottom please"

It was just tech drawing when I did it at school and then technical college, proper drawing boards with parallel motions or tee squares and a selection of different hardness pencils, this was 1970s, used it right up to the late 90s when the company I worked for sent me on an Autocad course.

Proper job. It was a revelation when I got my first rotring automatic pencil when I started work. Still use my Casio calculator that I bought with my first wage packet.
Most of the numbers have rubbed off , but I just know what they are without looking

Did metal work and wood works GCSE.
At my school it was also called technical drawing, was good at making stuff, got the school prize for best exam project, but was rubbish at drawing anything, still am rubbish

I'm the other way, not so good at making stuff, but I can visualise and draw most stuff, and see in my head how things will fit together. Experience of being on site whilst jobs are being erected etc has helped knowing what will and won't work and whether you can access areas with MEWP etc to allow a safe and quick job. Using 3D software (Tekla) really helps here.
Also listening to erectors / fabricators as asking if there is a better way to do things.
I think I may have said it a few times before, but there are a lot of prima Donna draftys out there who don't really have a scooby and just blindly use the connection macros to connect stuff, with no forethought of how it can be erected.

Will someone tell all out suppliers that - our machine shop is flat out, and we can't get stuff in from outside fast enough as our suppliers aren't exactly quiet either . . .
And we're supplying stuff into China . . . ;-)

Good for you, long may it continue. On a personal perspective can’t remember the last time I bought something (& its not for the want of trying) marked “made in England (uk)”

The only issue is . . . at a trade show in mainland Europe, the other side of the aisle from our stand was one of our increasingly big competitors from China . . . with a machine so similar to ours, I thought our stand was spread over two locations . . . as I was visiting with a colleague, not working on the stand, we paid some interest . . . helpful man opened it up to reveal various features, tapped holes etc . . when asked what they were for, he didn't know . . .
We did, we stopped using them a few years ago . . . so we can pretty much date the machine, and where it went, used as "inspiration" . . .

It's not just China. I was speaking to someone from a global manufacturing company in the SW UK and they buy products from rivals, pull them apart, and basically copy them with a few tweaks, then make thousands of the things
