its always good when someone has the courage to question but once said it should be let be imo, it looked scary to me but its not something I have much experience of
But you trust the brakes on your car to stop you? Just making a point
That's why we now have duel circuit brakes, a mechanical backup brake, a steering system to avoid the hazard and a seat belt and airbag for when all that fails.

No, for the last 15 years a service engineer repairing MEWP's, before that Forklift/Plant Service Engineer and I trained as a Commercial Vehicle Mechanic back in the 1970's on new Ford "D Series" and the Ford Transcontinental was still on the drawing board...

Arr,,, but we now train unit fitters because the computer says its the "So and So" that's fubarred, I haven't seen a proper total engine strip/rebuild (including a rebore/regrind) in a vehicle workshop for years, its now just a case of pull it out and unpack a new one.
We now train "Unit Fitters not Mechanics" if the computer can't fix it, a lot of "Modern Day Mechanics" are totally lost, give them a car from the 1950's/60's/70's and ask them to cure an engine problem they're lost, or ask them to rebuild an engine...

that's very true, though it shows more how we have been suckered into being more of a consumer of new goods by the large manufacturers. We only train what we need, sort of sad really because skills and knowledge lost are hard to regain

A friend of mine has worked for Mercedes since leaving school, must be 53/54 now and originally trained as a gearbox tech, he is now a service manager. He bought a 300E off a customer with a gearbox fault that was taken in PX and asked his then snotty manager if it was ok to get the lads to drop & refit the box for him so he ordered the parts to overhaul the box and stayed behind one night to fit them. Most of the young lads stayed behind to watch him and see how it was done! The manager thought he had ordered a replacement gearbox and was shocked to find one of his staff could strip and rebuild one on the bench.

I have stripped/rebuilt industrial fluid drive transmissions in forklifts where you select each gear manually, but
I bow down to a man who understands the dark arts and witches brew of auto gearboxes for cars.
I've taken a couple of old one's apart to see what's inside but there's no logical drive path in my eyes and the control system well, but now they are ECU controlled some are 7+ speeds, its the computer that says "Yea or Nay.

It is yes, pretty much behind the indoor karting. It should be a good route for the public once completed, my mate has his boats booked on there for a further 4/5 weeks
