a hardwood question

this wood comes from a hardwood floor and thats all i know about it

i cant figure out what wood it is though i think its cedar but not sure

there about 600mm long but i havent figured out what to do with them yet about 17mm thick but any worl to them is going to be a bandsaw and a planer but its hardwood weathered unknown on how long its been down on a floor

Beech was also used back in the 80s etc for wood flooring. Looks a bit like Beech to me but I'm no expert in flooring!

The pic was confusing, had me thinking the end boards a bit strange until I realised its in shadow.

Cedar is a softwood connifer.
Cant say much from a photo, what does it smell like? Perhaps give it a light rub with sandpaper and a sniff test.

Don't think its cedar, that's really soft, Beech is generally very pale with no grain. Looks like a sapele or similar.

Maybe sapele? Doesn't look like beech to me.

Don't think it's beech, grains wrong. It doesn't look like cedar either, strong smell with cut cedar, too soft for flooring I'd say and it's very light. Might be sapele, its got a sort of spicy smell when cut so could try cutting it to see, but think it looks more like iroko?

Totally off topic, but I used to do some work at an office complex that was Cedar clad, and they spent half their time replacing lengths of cladding because Woodpeckers kept pecking big holes in it.

So if your planning on Cedar cladding, make sure there's no Woodpeckers around.

the pieces ive picked are planned so trying to show original colour as the colour is darker possibly vanished

i will get some more pics theres plenty of pieces out there in the garden that could make up a parquet floor but i dont like wood floors

i was thinking of something else i could do with them and neighbour is kinda asking what they are

there not oak and there not red wood either ceder i recognise

iroko looks like it might be but many pieces have the glue underneath them so tried to pick out the best pieces

rough idea there heavy when you carry 10 lengths of 600mm there even heavier if you carry 900mm lengths
there 17mm thick 105mm with the routered edge so 100mm when clipped together

from what ive seen there really hard and from some of the boards it looks like even a blade planner has struggled with them

Could be Keruing gaz, many flavours and colours of it. Kin hard and very popular for flooring.

It looks like what we used for the base/ledge of sash windows I rebuilt with dad about 30 years ago. But I can't for the life of me remember the wood!

That combined with the grain makes me think Iroko, which darkens as it ages (from a fresh cut)

won't be iroko is a lot darker ,oak or mahogany. judging by the grain it looks to me to be ash.
I've got all 3 except iroko.
oak smell a little on the soury side.
thats my take.
