A few piccies of my latest project

Here is my series 2a/3 shortie, it has basically had the entire good body shell grafted onto a s2a chassis, the engine has been changed for a Daihatsu F50 Taft diesel it was petrol.
The chassis has had some work done, rear x member, and front dumb irons changed, but other than that it was sound, someone will spout its a s111 but it retains the chassis, steering and suspension, the rest of it was a rotted out chicken coup, much of the work was done some five yrs ago, and just recently the project has been revitalised with a new clutch and fuel tank fitted.
Will be going for mot shortly as soon as I have finished sorting the seatbelts out.
Some modifications have been made to the drivers side so I can fit in and attempt to drive it, leg room, belly room and hight adjustment for the right foot, the artheritis means that I can no longer keep my foot in the position rover dictated.

Anyway enough chat.

I went to look at a series 2 with that engine are they any good?
I'm converting mine to a rover 300tdi.
I have the same headlight conversions, I'd rather have the standard sealed beams, do they perform any better?
I hear you have arthritis, I'm getting old and struggle with steering, I drove a series ambulance the other week I was thinking of buying, but it was way too hard with a small steering wheel, yours looks even smaller, do you not struggle with that?

The 12" steering wheel gives me a bit more elbow room, the chicken box gives me somewhere to park the left elbow and carry some of the rubbish that I dont want rolling all over the floor.
One drawback of such a small steering wheel is tr to keep the beast on the road, because I have obviously lost leverage, it is a small price to pay, the 235 16 simes that are on it dont help either, but I have just picked up some more 205s tonight, and after a bit of swapping round, I will put these on in the hope the smaller footprint and higher pressure will help cure some of the tendancy for it to jump into the ditch.

The headlights are direct replacement for the sealed beams, which in my opinion are like candles in a jam jar, these are crystal halogens from a company called bolton bits (hope I can put that in), got the pair and buckets made from non rusting plastic for a very reasonable price, and again imho, are far superior to the old sealed beams.
The indicator lenses came from them also, and sourced some amber bulbs and basically brought it kicking and screaming into the 21st or is that 22nd centuary lighting wise.
It is good fun making mods to try and evaluate the effectiveness, some have worked, some have not.

The 2 1/2 ltr Daihatsu engine in mine is sound, does not smoke and starts reasonably ok this more due to the engagment of the starter motor, which is hit and miss, many many and even more hrs have been spent head scratching, swearing, throwing the teddies out the pram and at one point the scrapman was called, but cancelled, we have put another solenoid and extra welding wire cables down to it so now it has two solenoid and wire feeds in tandem.
This has reduced it missing to around 1 in 3, the motor has been away 3 times and has been rebuilt twice, and on the test rig always shows full outputs and sound windings ect, so it is a mystery, off the motor and the floor it always turns over on the battery, all the earths are A OK.
