Problem is they may need parts. And looking at the age of them unless your patient enough to wait for used spares come up which may never happen. You might hit a winner and find its an easy fix but I tend to leave those kind of machines to the gamblers. Remember there is a reason they are been flogged off cheap and you will tend to find the owner has already looked into a possible repair realised its not feasible and so sticks it up for sale to get something back on it. I would only buy stuff like that to strip and repair another.

Well I was kind of aiming it at the gamblers
Three of my MIGs were non-runners when I got them: one needed a rectifier, one needed the motor speed control repairing ( a transistor, effectively) and one needed two relays. In all three cases (admittedly the one that needed relays was free ) I just looked at them and thought yeah, worth a try.
