A cunning plan

I just spotted this on eBay and it got me thinking, it is flat, thick, solid and has slots for bolting work to it, that would be really nice for welding on. Has anyone tried this?
It would lend itself nicely to making a rotator too...

its cast iron probably, not sure how that would cope with heat cycling of welding, may flash harden in places? not sure though

Nope, unless you want to be able to tack the job to the table old cast iron surface plates make great welding tables just like old faceplates and chucks are useful for welding positioners
