A crime against drills

I’d like to get my suckers on that old RA drill. It looks like a kitchen and wade from here.
I’d skim the table and bolt a tapped plate to it. Holes are a pita that fill with swarf but useful and easy solution

Yes that's what makes them so good. You can bolt the job down securely (which is a must with a powerful drill) once and move the head around for other positions. To centre leave head unlocked jog in reverse over hole or centre dot which will centralise it then lock up.
Radial arm drills are very dangerous and must have a jet brake fitted

i drilled a hole in the gutter of my aldi drill press to hold the chuck key so i dont loose it.
its not hard not to drill holes in the table unless your careless or the drill isnt yours and you dont care.
no excuse for it but sadly many people in the world simply dont care.

This was my solution to the same problem, just glued on so could be removed if desired.

Seeing tools treated like the radial drill is sad indeed. When I was 12 years old my Dad bought me my first power tool. It was a used 1950's era Rockwell bench model drill press and came with a bunch of random drill bits. I was as happy as a pig in you know what, and we spent a weekend stripping it down cleaning and repainting it. About 20 years ago I let a friend use it and he drilled right into the table. Needless to say, I was quite p****d off about it as the table had been unmarked all those years. It bothered me so much that I ended up drilling out the 3/4" center hole to 1" to remove the damage. I still have that drill press, which is in fine condition and has served me well over the last 50+ years.

I just use a flat magnet on the side of the drill to hold the chuck key quick and easy

Here is a sketch of the of the foolproof safety device that was on the drill press in my junior high school metal shop back in 1967. Simply a piece of flat metal with a short piece of tubing welded on it and attached to the on/off switch so the kids had to push the chuck key into the tube to turn on the machine.

Sorry about the quality of the drawing as I'm not an artist.

Had to resort to rebuilding a skil saw in the lounge this week. Standing room only ATM.

Bits of lathe everywhere in an already crowded single garage till it's rebuilt.
