a close friend needs a wheelchair

with out expanding to much as the person in question like to keep them to them selves and rarely asks for any help

thay have found them selfs in need of a wheelchair im on the look out for a folding and light chair any pointers on what to look for and what not to buy

only thing i know it needs to be as light as possable with out much expence im looking on the bay and gumtree theres lots to chose from but i want to rule them out with experance rather than buy something and learn what they need after buying

can your friend wheel themselves? if so, they're going to want big rear wheels

small wheels = less comfortable ride and not as easy to push outdoors, but folds smaller.
other than that, they're all of a same-ness

I have pushed plenty people round in wheel chairs and as above, big wheels is best.
i would imagine gumtree or a charity shop may be the best source, they are around the £100 + for new, all made in China and of average quality

You can hire them for very little money.
They’re always cropping up on the Facebook buy/sell pages too.

yes have been told about that the person in question is going to hospital tomorrow so will know more then and will decide if and what they need

I'd have thought u'd get 1 from the hospital or at least on prescription......
either for a temp job or perm.....the only time u'll need to buy 1 is if u want an all singing dancing affair....
we knew a couple that had them, well 2or 3 stashed in the shed after she died......
they couldn't give em away........just an idea........ask around....
even man with a van removers will know where u can get 1 or just ask for a free-b on Facebook....

the only time u'll need to buy 1 is if u want an all singing dancing affair.

no sing and dance but light as they are both getting on and will strugle to lift much

In my local area you can a wheelchair on loan from a council run scheme, It may depends on circumstances you may find help through the local council services, Or try something like freecycle.org or gumtree i gave 2 away last year left in a house one was very light and the wheels had a quick release system to put it in the car the guy who had it was about 20 and was very happy to get it.

after a bit off looking and after the one they are using that has been borrowed is 19 kg there is a new one that is 12.5 kg and new is £160 if it helps them i said just buy it if it makes you life easyer but will have to see what happens over the next few days

if i can pickup one or 2 more cheap so we can have one at mine and one at another house they go to regular and if in certain times if i need to do a pickup i can just throw it in the car it would help but no rush for them
