A canopy/cover for my back yard

I've been thinking of putting up a small cover type thing in my back yard between my kitchen wall (my kitchen is sort of an extension) and my neighbour's wall, so I have somewhere dry-ish to work on the bike in my back yard and even to sit and have a few beers in summer when it's invariably ******* down. Like this:

I originally thought a gazebo, but I'd be welding in there and they're not exactly known for being fireproof. My next thought would be a sloping wooden frame and some of that corrugated plastic stuff. My question is, would I need planning permission for that? Given that it's a semi-permanent structure. Also, what problems would I encounter with needing to drill into my neighbour's wall to affix it on that side? Do I (well, my landlord) own that part of the wall, or does my neighbour?

Any other suggestions for a cheap way to do this?

Anyone ever welded in a gazebo?

call it an open porch and you should not need b regs or planning,

ask the next door if you can attatch to his wall firxt.

Ask your landlord first would be my advice and ask your neighbour if he minds.......maybe in writing after talking face to face. If you don't get on with your neighbour could spell problems.

If that's your neighbour's house wall and you slope the roof towards him you are going to cause damp problems in his house. I would suggest a car port type structure that has it's own support at the outside and guttering to take the water run off to a drain.
