making some manifolds this morning, flo drill the holes then tap them, the technique allows decent quantity of thread in a 1.5mm gauge box section

Shame it is so pricey to start with, there are a no of jobs we would find it useful for but not the quantity to justify outlay

What sort of tap are you using? Always used a roll tap rather than a fluted cutting type for flow drilled holes.

The flowdrill bits we use have got little tangs each side so as you come to the bottom they trim off the top of the hole flush with the material.

We always use roll taps. Handy kit. Needs a sturdy drill press, mill or radial arm drill.

the spec for this job insists that the process is used, but I was fortunate to take the tooling from a previous supplier that gave me the job

yes, roll tap, it would defeat the object to a degree if you used a cutting tap.

Last time I made something like this I drilled normal holes, put some hex-hank bushes in from behind and ran the tig over the top of them to seal them up.

I have also seen plain nuts used and the sealing done with a crush washer against the fitting
