I was watching this on Quest the other night, during the build the chap had a few lessons in welding (not that he couldn't weld before hand anyway) and they were using SIP equipment.

I was under the impression that SIP gear wasn't the most highly regarded machinary in the business, unless I am wrong?
Also my next door neighbour is a welder (TIG) and he mentioned that the company he works for uses SIP kit.

Is there a massive difference in the quality between their diy and professional kit?

(not that I am championing SIP or anything, just thinking out loud)

The problem with SIP is the wire feed on their MIGs. I haven't heard any criticism of their other equipment.

I'm no expert but I suppose the fact they are still in business is an indication they don't sell total rubbish. It's probably a case of they're not particularly bad, it's just that you can get better for your money (in the opinion of those in the know). Of course, having a major retail outlet like Halfords stocking your gear must help. But then if Halfords had problems with lots of returns etc, I would've thought they would dump SIP as a supplier.

I've also found Quest and have been watching all the * is born series. Freeveiw channel 38!
Probably find that SIP help sponsor the programme. Does make for good viewing after SWMBO toddles off to bed.
