9" thin cutting discs

Dose anybody else have probloems with 9" thin cutting discs getting the wobbles and flexing around at the start of cuts. Is it bad discs or something else?

I haven't had the courage to use the ones I bought yet. I figured by the time I had the 9" out its serious enough to warrant normal cutting discs.

even my 4 1/2" slims take a few seconds to settle down and bed in round...hate to think what the 9" are like.

I must admit. .the four inch discs are good depending on make..don't think I got the minstrels to use a nine ..

I noticed the same, they will also bend while cutting which is handy for cutting bolt heads off flush but butt clenchingly scary at the same time.

I used a cheap 9" grinding disc that must have been out of balance, it almost rattled my eyeballs out of their sockets.

They do settle Down but when they are squirming about 1" off true it's a bit .

There seems to be a bit of a fear on the forum with regards to 9" grinders.

I do use them properly, no mater how gentle you are with them or how you start the cut they seem to wobble at first.

Its no more dangerous than a stonesaw/stihlsaw / chainsaw yet few bat an eye

TBH I find that although I'm not scared of the 9" I feel more in control of a stihlsaw. Even my 14" 125cc jumbo stihlsaw

Ive used quite a few thin blades now I think they cut better than the thicker ones , had a few wobbles nothing serious , I dont Fettle with them either

not so much the grinders but using thins in them puts me off

not that you should but i was grinding with a cutting disk in the stihlsaw sideways and the amount of flex on the disk was unreal . the guards on a stihlsaw are a lot better than a 9inch angle grinder and are safer to use. stihlsaws have a centrifugal clutch on them grinders dont

Years ago (about 15) I was working in a tunnel where a couple of geordie welders had the job of cutting up a mile of 12" cast iron pipe. They were using those 9" thin discs and the floor was littered with half-worn discs with the centres torn out.

I dare say if you got one pinched in a drooping pipe , it would tear the middle out , they must be treated with respect !

Maybe placing a 4 1/2" disk on top of the 9" would act as a re-enforcer

Could be worth a try, I should also get some good klingspore or similar discs to compare, I don't think the Titan ones I'm useing at present are top quality.

Tbh I don't have a nine inch grinder. .the last one I used many years ago snatched really bad and put me off getting one..but I suppose now days they probably bit more user friendly. ....

Yes 9" thin disks do wobble a bit when you first start them off, then they settle down. Nothing to be alarmed by. If your starting a very accurate cut its best to use a part worn disk first.
