6t hydraulic press

I have the chance of a cheap 6t hydraulic press. Will this be enough for small workshop jobs like pressing bearings from motorbikes?

I also want to fold small sections of max 4mm steel, no mire than about 20cm wide. What would I need in the way of tooling to do this?

Height isnt the be all,its size of frame and the ram on it that decides whats good or bad,Ive sen a 6 ft garage press bend itself while pressing a halfshaft bearing,because the job wasn't centered.Should be man enough for your needs tjough.Angle iron is your friend for making tooling

I started with a 6T jack in my press but went to a 12T a few years later..Bob

6 ton should be fine for motorbike bearings and folding 4mm steel. As for 'tooling' I mostly see home made stuff used for pressing and folding. Even the presses them selves are often home made.

For bike stuff I would suggest making (or buying) something that is wide enough for your needs, wheel bearings seem the obvious job for a press, so it needs to be able to accept a wheel with tyre!!
6T should be enough, but can easily be upgraded (bottle jacks are relatively cheap, my 20T was less than £50 new.
Heavy angle/channel/I beam is the favoured material for fabricating a press frame.

I think you read it the same as I, it says 6T not 6FT I thought I was going mad, but maybe we ARE!

LOL, its a 6T press thats sits on the bench. Its made by Sealey and I can have it fro £50 complete and only used once.

I don't need to get a bike wheel in it, I have the proper tools for doing those bearings. Its more things like a steering yoke or an engine case/head for bearings that need pressing. This is more than wide enough for those jobs.

Its more the tooling I need to know how to make and if 6ton was going to be enough for my small jobs. I often have to make brackets or blank plates for frame oil tanks and at the moment hit them with a lump hammer in the vice!!!
