6mm Steel plate

Just been approached to make a bench.

Anyone have a rough price for the above, 6mm steel plate, 2500x1250?

Parkers quote is £150ish

I paid £138 (inc VAT) + delivery from a local stockist about a year ago. Price you have been given might not be far off.

I wont be needing it for a while, as I've the frame to knock together first anyway.

Nobody has come back claiming to find it cheaper. Obviously buying in bulk gets things cheaper. When I order, I usually try and order a stock of other stuff like box etc to help keep costs down and spread out the delivery charge.

That seems a good price, I paid 90 for 10mm 600x100 cash from local fabricator

Wow thats a shocking difference. You must be on very good terms with your supplier, or often buy large quantities?

If you can collect it yourself and buy in whole sheets its MUCH cheaper.

Steel is a pain to price if you don't have an account with the steel stockists. I always plan ahead and buy as Much as I can at a time as it works out so Much cheaper.

As soon as you start asking for cutting the price rockets, I think my local stockist charges £1 a cut

I buy full lengths or whole sheets in everything.

Then design my next project around what I have lying about (this is why somethings I make look odd)

£1 a cut? Charlie Watts used to charge that, then they decided to change it all and have a labour charge so can't even tell you what it will cost to chop a sheet in half in advance. Last time I wanted a sheet of 1mm cut in two it more than doubled the cost of the steel, so what started out as £11 ended up at over £30 by the time they added the VAT on top of the labour.

Is it me or has steel gone down in price as well as scrap?
