I've recently been looking at welding jobs in Australia some of which say that i need either a 6G or 8g ticket in order to apply. Can anyone tell me if there is a course in Northern Ireland i can go to in order to get coded to the level of 6G or 8G in either MIg, ARC OR TIG welding.

well 6G is a pipe fixed at 45 degrees, and this has to be done, with some one watches you. and then it has to be x-rayed.
as for 8g i have never hurd of that. the higest you can get is 6GR.

6G, 6GR etc are just welding positions. With the different processes and materials there's around eleventybillion different welding codes, many are job specific i.e they apply to a specific weld procedure. Good overview and a link to TWI in this thread for the common codes
One that wasn't mentioned in that thread is CAA qualifications (BCAR A8-10)... there are 7 metal groups, 5 different joints and (potentially) 6 different processes!
Search the forum for 'codes' and you'll find several threads on the subject and some contact details for testing out. Without wishing to sound rude Australia is a long way to go if you've never done that sort of work before
