Looking to upgrade my mig, currently have a sealey supermig 160. It's been alright (well it's now with my mate with a eurotorch conversion and its like a different machine). Currently I'm torn between a portamig 185 and an ifl I tech 170. I have a very small workshop (there is a gap that the sealey lived in) I do on occasion do welding for other people so the portability of the ifl appeals to me but it's not very often and what do i do with the gas cylinder but I do have a makeshift ramp for loading welder up. I have a 20 amp outlet in workshop but most places I go I'm limited to 13 amps.
It would mainly be for car body work and fabbing engine mounts, chassis rails etc). I have a datsun so steel is down to wafer thin in places lol
Does the 15 amp setting make that much difference? Never really had much issue using the thin sheet technique on the sealey minimum 30 amps and .6 wire. Would the ifls infinate adjustment be useful? Have found with the sealey that some jobs are between 2 settings but it only has 5 steps whereas the portamig has 12.
Any other models worth a look?
