6 months of roadworks past the end of our cul-de-sac

New gas pipes being put in, with lots of damage to surrounding conduits.

You should be in Walthamstow right now. Major works on a main route, both gas and water. Because of the darlings who run the council, virtually all back streets are blocked "to improve air quality" so the traffic is backed up on the few remaining roads that are drivable.

Like my town, Stafford. Whoever organises the multiple conflicting roadworks is obviously waging war on the motorist. They’ve virtually killed off the town centre, having made it so ridiculously difficult and time consuming to get there.

They’ve been working on building 1km of road, and reworking an existing roundabout, and 3 years in it’s about half done. There’s rarely anybody working on it, and I ride by most days of the week.

I've just seen the advance notice for 3 way temporary lights at the end of Kings heath high street, most side roads are closed or one way thanks to the councils LTN (low traffic neighbourhood) so there will be 6 weeks of gridlock coming up.

Under most councils the utility company has to resurface a 15m+ stretch around the repair if they dig through a recently resurfaced road.

And I don't see the problem with them making childish jokes. It makes their day go quicker. That is by far not the worst thing I've seen done on site as a joke.

And everyone should note 2 things with road works
1) please remember that disruptions are not the fault of anyone you will ever see on site. And taking your frustration out on them is fruitless. And can even be counter productive.
2) the excessive amount of traffic management in place is down to the poor quality of driving and general contempt from the general public. If everyone drove sensibly and carefully through road works the traffic management could be greatly reduced and disruption minimised. Unfortunately while everyone continues as they are then there is little choice to keep the workers safe.

It's like that in the whole of Camden council controlled areas ALL the time.
Hampstead just off the Finchley Road is a nightmare as half the roads are shut to motorists morning and afternoon. Utter chaos and almost certainly more pollution as ever one is stuck in traffic

ten years ago they moled a cable duct outside my house and under the railway crossing and drilled through the 6 inch water main there was a geyser 60 foot high . it flooded my garage and had to have a couple of new carpets in the house and re damp proofed cost them 24 grand to put it all right .i did score on the damp proofing as it was allready there . i re did it all myself and plastered it up and billed em 2 grand for it on top

Try driving in Cambridge, roadworks everywhere , roads closed to all traffic apart from bikes and buses, bike lanes that cyclists ignore everywhere. I’m certain that the roadworks etc are there to increase congestion so that the council can justify the congestion charge they have been on about for years

That's exactly what's going on.

~My little town, small enough most people call it a village, seems to be the place temporary lights come to die. What with rebuilding support walls for several miles out one side, rebuilding a wall that washe dout when the beck flooded - and most stupidly, a bridge. An old bridge that went no-where from no-where. Both ends blocked. There is now a shiny new steel framed, concreted decked bridge. Blocked at both ends.

Gas main replacement. Many, many electric problems to sort power cuts. Resurfacing of the road. Repainting lines. Burning lines off. Putting lines back. Digging the road up to widen it. Paint lines. Decide its been done wrong, dig road up again, resurface, paint lines . . .

Problem is we are a short cut that avoid miles going around, so traffic comes to a standstill often.

Are the contractors under any obligation to repair the other utility conduits in the hole? If they don't then it's not going to be long before that roads dug up again.
