I think I am right in saying that 5C collets will fit the spindle on my L5A with large bore spindle. With an appropriate draw bar etc.
I want to be able to mount milling cutters (and other parallel shanked objects), quickly, on centre with no fuss and good repeatability.
As I understand it the taper in my spindle is MT4.5, the max diameter is 1.600". I had been looking at options to make a sleeve to accept more conventional milling machine tapers (with the view to using a designated collet chuck) but think I will be limited to ISO30 at max which could be a bit small and is all serving to move any mounted tooling further away from the spindle nose = less support, larger multiplication of any run out etc.
I see no reason why the 5C couldn't cope with tool holding, though I think it is primarily intended for work holding? Better to ask more learned members.
