Shop locally,where metal is concerned you won't get better than buying locally.
I've a steel stockist not far from me and I phoned up for pricing and found it at least £2 difference in a steel 25x25x3mm 3mtre length basically by the time I added on the P&P it came to about £4 less just for that length.

Aluminium usually comes in 5m lengths, i'm guessing £26.80 for 7.6m length was carbon steel?

If you can live with 2" x 2" 10swg imperial sizes are usually a bit cheaper
They aren't quite so competitive for sheet but the carriage is horrific for full sheet/plate anyway

Not that long ago that was through Cumbria steel stock who I get most of my steel from. Sure brown and Wilson is cheaper still and don't need an account. I just paid by card and still give me it at that price. Think they have places in Scotland not sure if any near you

Not according to my old RM teacher, because carbon isn't a metal so it's not an alloy.
For some reason, alloy and ally are used interchangeably, when pretty much every metal you use in a home workshop is an alloy
The difference is, it is alloyed with various elements that makes it an alloy.
I read the heading of the post as (in my head) steel alloy too, had it said ally then (in my head) I would have read aluminium

Because of the ferromagnetic properties of iron, some steel alloys find important applications where their responses to magnetism are very important, including in electric motors and in transformers.

I forgot to add 2, off sheets. Total for sheet and 30 metres hollow section, incl vat & delivery. £500. Which i thought was decent, compared to buying a good quality wood.
