50x50 3mm

Hi can anyone point me in the right direction to find what load i can put on a 50x50 box section end on to support an out building roof (need a structial enj hand book or somthing) the load is about 2 tons over two legs at front and back is into a wall !!!!!

Thats a lot of load to put on 50x50x3 box section...used as a column....it will fail.

Presumably you are a builder.....you need to provide the necessary information to a structural engineer who will work out the required section size for you. Theres a lot of info to be taken into account...dead/live loads...snow loading etc etc. You wont find it in any standard 'hand books'.

Height will be a major factor too. Assuming its like the front of a of a single story , just holding the roof , you probably be looking at 80mm box minimum. But as Paul has said already, you ideally need it drawn up..... Unless you seriously over engineer it.

ok guys cant get hold of him till monday i guessed it was a long shot but worth a try and i`v overexagerated the weight prob and its only 2 mtrs high thats the size we use for 1st floor bay window supports which have floor/wall/roof load when used with jack feet plates
