If it would ever go into production the cost would be high enough that We would be lucky to break even. That's the was stuff figures out in the modern world. We are not going to get a break unless We build it Ourself.
Ilmor used to do Mercedes engines. If a major manufacturer got on the hand wagon or if motor sport were able to let it into a formula. Then it would become viable. It's the stuff of le mans garage 56 prototypes. Makes a v6 1.4 with 260hp in a light weight chassis. Or a 3 litre v12 version pushing out over 500 in a lmp2 chassis.
If it's that efficient the it would mean less pitstops for fuel.

I don't see why the engine itself would be anymore difficult or expensive to manufacture, its only the usual crankshaft, camshafts etc. ilmor say it themselves, can be made using existing manufacturing technology.
