416 Stainless

I need 416 Stainless 20mm thick by 140mm wide by 200mm long, either length or width can be a multiple of the stated value, can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier? Or if you have a chunk you could sell me?

400 series stainless steels are magnetic and 300 series stainless steels arn't (in their annealed state) and 300 grade stainless have chome and nickel in them, but 400 grade only have chrome, which generally means the the 300 grade stainless steels are generally more corrosion resistant that the 400 grade stainless steels. Also the 300 grade stainless steels are also known as austenitic stainless steels and the 400 grade stainless steels are known as ferritic grades but there are also some matenesitic grades which are heat treatable. (as 416 grade is in this case).

I've never seen it in anything other than round bar..
Quick look on the Internet suggests it's also available in plate. If you could find out which industries use plate it might give you a clue where to start looking?

I thought the 416 has sulphur or something in it for better machining?
Is it not supposed to machine much the same as steel?
I think it's less corrosion resistant than something like 316, certainly to chemical corrosion

Speed Alloys in Hertford are worth a try, I used them for marine grade stuff quite a few times but they seem to stock all sorts of stainless steels.

In fact I have had a couple of experiences of Great Yarmouth and the surrounding countryside, none of which have been good, just recently I embarked upon a fools errand to a place near Fritton and if the guy isn't careful it will end in court.
