4 terminal plugs & sockets for foot pedal extension

Guys anybody know where I can find 4 terminal inline plugs and sockets ???

I need to make up a 25ft extension cable for my TIG foot pedal so I don't have to move the welder when working on the chassis jig.

Would din plugs and sockets do it ? They are easily available and cheap or Molex which carry a bit more current and you can find them in old computers with male and female to connect drives to PSU.

I believe they are low voltage & current, the cables are only .5mm thick

I'd go along with DIN connectors then, Miniature D-Subs or XLR if you want something a bit more robust.

Yes need to be fairly robust as they will be on the workshop floor, what are XLR's ???

i would stay clear of the din plugs they are quite flimsy really i would go with the 4 pin xlr though they are quite robust and lock together which is good if they will be dragged aroung
another good choice would be the 4 pole speakon plugs but im not sure if they do a female version of the plug they do have a coupler to join leads together and will accept a decent thickness cable

As you say mate the DIN plugs look a bit flimsy, the last thing i want to do is keep having to fix them all the time. XLR's look just right.

I agree, DIN pligs are too flimsy. Used on things that re plugged in and don't move. They don't stay connected if the wires shake or move.

XLR is more for things that get moved around. They latch and are much heavier duty.

A bit late but second or third the XLR, four pole are used for DMX lighting control and are almost roadie proof so should be fine in a workshop.

DMX only uses 5 or 3 pin xlr 5 pin was the original standard but was altered and 3 pin is more common now

Ups. sorry Snooper, you are right. I just checked the connector box in the van and other than the 3 pole (for mic.s), found some panel mount 6 pole XLRs F connectors which we used for wired control panels years ago.

I don't often see DMX these day, I just spent two days in Brussels making an Ipad / Crestron system run an ancient 1bit KNX / EIB system. That was fun my French is almost non existent but we got there in the end.

Just to let others know the XLR plugs/sockets were perfect for the job, I now have a foot pedal with a 25ft extension, I should of done it years ago.
