Hi i'm hoping one of you clever chaps might be able to help me out with some advice!
I bought a Cemont 3ph 250amp compact mig welder from the dreaded bay as good working order- thought i had a bargain!
Plugged it in and straight away noticed the fan was not running although the argon and wire worked so i proceeded to feed the wire through and with in two minutes smoke was pouring out from the cover and it popped a 5amp fuse in the front panel, i took the side cover off and found the low voltage transformer was burnt out rated 120va. I looked at the fan and could clearly see the windings had previously melted so all was not looking good!
I replaced the low voltage transformer with a 150va one and put a fan from my sealey welder on which also runs from 240v, it all seemed to be working, it has 10 power settings and a rated voltage down to 30amps but when switched on no.1 it would burn through 2mm plate as soon as you press the trigger! I tried 10mm plate and it will burn through this on power no.7 (running 1mm wire) and if i turn it any higher it will trip my three phase 20amp trip! wiring was wrong inside sorted that but has no arc when wired correctly but the argon valve works as does the wire motor and main relay? The fan also burnt out again after 10mins of running and the new transforner seemed quite hot. Any help of how to test this pile of welder would be great!
