Just about to pull the trigger on this 3D printer:

It's a Wanhao i3 V2 for £305, before I do could anyone with experience of 3D printers cast their eye over it and give their opinion please as I'm a complete novice.
It does have pretty good reviews on Amazon.

Can you post a review when you get it? I'm personally interested in knowing how much assembly is required before you can print.

I should also say the prusa i3 is supposed to be very good, so this should be also.

I have a prusa i3, works great for me (tho I haven't used it in a long time)

because most printers are open source (or very easy to copy) I think the supplier you use can make a big difference... had to replace the slide bearing sin mine... they were about £1 each but the ones that came with it must have been pennies

no idea about that seller - I guess google is your only option there

havn't looked at prices of them in a long time so no idea where that ones sits - but if you see a bit bitter one for not much more, spend the extra... you'll only have to spend it later if you don't :-o

Tom from welding supplies direct has just got a 3d printer but i can not remember what one he went for.
Its something i keep thinking about, need to do some research my self, i know there are a few types of filament but dont know the pros and cons.

I've got a CTC 3D printer, outstanding bit of kit, Although I don't use it anywhere near as much as I'd like to.
They're available on eBay for around £260 and I think they're worth every penny.

There are several software packages out there that y usehe Xbox sensor for scanning, and I've yet to decide which to buy - it's not a huge priority as I have quite a bit else on my plate. But having just got a Cetus3D printer I'm quite keen to have a go

I built a cyclops. It uses a logitech stereoscopic camera and a arduino with motorcontroller to time the platform rotation. It has the odd geometry issue but I think its the printed table drive gear at fault and I'm going to mill one out of delrin on the bridgeport to test that theory and try spraying the thing to be scanned with a special coating to improve the scan. Maybe I should get back into tweaking it, but the reverse engineering I want to do is more dimensions of fixings and mountings to make compatible parts, and for that I can use the romer arm.

I did make the earlier makerbot scanner based on a ps3 eye, and that was truly terrible. As was the android app's that you took a series of photos of a object and it worked out the 3d model from it. My xbox kinect isnt especially awe inspiring at picking objects up well either so be interested to hear how you get on and if you find it ok or a disappointment.
I've always thought of photogommetry scanning as great as a toy and for making little plastic version of peoples heads to impress them, but unless the 3d scanner is hanging off a cmm or cost several thousand, thats about all theyre good for.
I also use my cnc mill with a homemade probe as a 3d scanner...


Dont know much about the ops printer but the prusa i3 is very well regarded.
