32 Amp extension

Can any of the sparky types out there advise me on a 32 Amp extension, I see there are 4mm and 6mm variants my new mig is rated at 32 amp input current at 285 amps, I should thing 90% of my work will be spent at around the 160 amps range

Any help would be appreciated

I'm sure all my 32a extensions i made were 4mm arctic cable, and iirc when I calculated it the voltage drop over the full 100m length excluding extra resistance from the plugs/sockets was only ~10v if the input was a full 240v which mine is.

10 metres would be fine,but 6mm would be recommended

Sorted, just bought a 10m 6mm £44.50 I get around 250 volts from my household sockets

Hope it's SY (silflex) cable, gives good mechanical protection

if its buried underground u need xlpe armoured cable its much cheaper
i realy would check round the prices if i was u what size do u need il price it trade and u can see what u will be getting ripped off by i get mine from cleveland cable co or city electrics u have to negotiate the price with the rep

The wire is clipped to the fence at the moment and comes off the cooker supply paced it out roughly to 20 metres

It's just an extension for trailing behind the machine in my garage, I have a 16mm swa 3core supplying my garage got the supply cable for £120 which I thought was a really good price for 25m

Just search e bay for 32a extensions, there's lots of superflex ones

You won't have any problem with 6mm, I ran a 6mm 20mt long cable on a 235amp MIG running full amps without drama when I built my first shed. It's more than adequate.
