30mm O/D tube to 3mm plate

Howdy,
Just got my Portamig 215 after a very long wait!
Just doing some practice stuff on some stock that I have around the place.

I have hit one snag so far, I have some 3mm wall tube (apporx 30mm outer diameter) and I am trying to weld it to some 3mm flat plate. Not something i have done before even in class.

Any tips? I was trying strings at the same settings im using for my 3mm t-fillets, but not getting good penetration. And after a few good belts with the hammer the welds lift. Off the top of my head I think i was running about 150 on power.

Any ideas, should I do multiple pass, weave etc?

After some internet searching im going to try a 'c' weave tomorrow

Chamfer the tube ? Give the weld wire somewhere to go.

I was thinking that, thought at 3mm wall i could get away with it ill try both and see how I get one,

Whack the power up. Don't fiddle about weaving or chamfering.

You shouldn't need either preparation or weaving to nail 3mm fillets, in fact weaving is likely to work against you, I suspect the problem is one of technique or setting, a photo of the weld will provide some clues

I still have one or two I have'nt took the hammer too, ill grab pics tomorrow. It probably is technique, iv not tried this particular weld before.

Ill try that first then and see what happens.
