So basically my only option is to cut it off and start again...gutted.
When grinding the old part off should I cut the welded material (tank)off completely or will it be OK just to grind down flat (there may still be stainless wire in the material)
Whoa steady........firstly if it isnt cracked now it wont crack later.......as for corrosion.......rig pig is right you get galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals but Id bet 10p that it will probably outlast the rest of the car.......it will probably fail prematurely compared to a complete SS tank
Id leave it be and see how it goes
One proviso.......
There is something at the back of my mind (and I think we have discussed it before) about Diesel being in galvanised tanks or not in galvanised tanks.........I expect someone will know the rules
