300mm Linishing Discs

Hi all,

Finally got my big ass linisher set up. Just need to find belts and discs. Should have belts sorted but the only thing that puzzled be was the 300mm discs. At the moment it is just an aluminium plate in which you'd fix the disc onto.... the self adhesive ones cost a bomb! I have found these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HOOK-LOOP...werTools_SM&hash=item3cc53e5397#ht_500wt_1051 which are velcro. My plan is to get a sheet of the opposite "sex" velcro and bond to the aluminium disc on the machine.

These will then just stick on and rip off once finished with. Just wanted to confirm it is a useable idea and that the discs have the "furry" soft side - the loops? Or is the the sharp "hooked" side? Been a while since I've seen any.

That is a good price for 300mm velcro discs.However I think you will struggle to get the 300mm self adhesive velcro hook backing material due to the width.If so send me a pm as I can advise on 100mm wide material you can butt up on the backing plate.

I've got rolls of the velceo up to 500mm wide, I just need to get a chance to get some from storage. We used it on bouncy castles.

Will let you all know if it works. But am I right saying the discs have the furry side on the back?

Interesting idea. I've just built a disc lioniser too, so let us know how it works out.

Blending pad for angle grinders have the soft stuff (loops?) on the back of the consumable and the hard stuff, hooks?, on the backing pad which mounts on the spindle. I guess it's the same? You could always ask on eBay?.

I don't know what you consider a 'fortune' but I have seen large discs a decent prices in the msc or Cromwell catalogues, or maybe their offer flyers.

P.s. I think you'll have a MUCH flatter linishing surface if you go with the bonded ones than the thicker and 'lumpier' Velcro backed ones.

there are usually always linisher discs and belts in the cromwell savers catalogues
