3 phase convertor SU-600

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a little help and advise please,
I've brought a vdf su600 around the time other members were discussing then on the forum, I've wired the vdf up to my milling machine and all works as it should, but now I'm looking to move the vdf into the base of my milling machine and wish to wire up my own on/off switch with variable speed, instead of using the vdf panel, so far I've wired everything up as per the manuel but not sure how to change the parameters to my switch and potentiometer, Has anyone else managed to figure theirs out and could help?
My other vdf's I use I didn't need any parameters changing when I did the same, it just worked as I intended
Any help or advice would be appreciated thank you

There will be a parameter to switch from panel control to external. All I can suggest is to trawl through the manual.

I've been looking through the manual for a few days now with no luck,

Page 7 of the manual:
Check position of the switches J1,2,4,5.

Page 13 of the manual:
Set F0.02 to 1
Set F0.03 to 2

You may also have to fiddle with F2.13-17. The English is terrible, but par for the course.

How about f2.18 on page 18?

It mentions 3 line control. That is often used for momentary contact start-stop switches.

The English in that manual is bad.

I've had a play around with the jumpers but nothing changed a part from when jumper 1 was turn off the potentiometer stayed at the max 50 Hz, I'm finding this manuel very difficult to follow too, would someone be able to guide me through how to change the parameters incase in getting it wrong? I've inserted a picture of the wiring I've done.

Are you confusing J1 with J4? They’re not in order left-right on the diagram. J4 off would select external pot. If it jumps to full then you may have the pot wired wrong. J5 should be set to AVI, I think.

Sorry yes I ment J4 when that's turned off it goes straight to 50hz I'll have a look at the wiring on the external pot and let you know what happens

It won't make any difference to the programming of the vfd but I do recommend that you get a bootlace ferrule connection tool and some insulated ferrules. Your wiring will look a whole lot neater and there's less chance of a short between adjacent wires.

I also like to clearly label all of the wires with a cable sleeving kit.

I've just turned jumper 4 to off, and tried changing all 3 wires to the potentiometer to different combinations without success, so to rule out the potentiometer I've put my volt meter across 2 of the wires of the potentiometer and the resistance valve changes when the dial is moved I'm presuming that it's working (it's a new one I put on it)
@6ply thank you for your advise it'll be something I may do in the future I'm working with what I have at the moment

Have you changed any parameters yet? You’ll have to master that at some point, if only to input the motor specs. Try PRG, then UP/DOWN, ENT to edit. Have a play.

Perhaps a prudent strategy would be to tell the OP what to do to view the existing parameters (every single one of them). Then they can be written down as backup before anythign is changed.

The next step would be to locate the factory reset parameter.

Then the playtime could start with lower possiblity of something going wrong.

Above pootube vid is diabolical in many ways but it helped me programming the su600's for 3 wire control.
These vfd's are not very intuitive for 3 wire setup.

I would if I could, just can’t remember, and don’t know that particular model. With my ones, I’ve always started with PRG, then worked it out from there. A bit like setting the time on a digital clock, he’ll work it out, just has to try. Only six buttons - even Arnold Rimmer was given five!

Factory reset a good thing to find. I’d also suggest writing down the parameter change procedure and sticking it to the side.

Factory reset: set F8.05 to 1.

I'd recommend setting the maximum current and min/max output frequency before any other parameters are changed. They provide a degree of motor protection.

A quick look at the manual shows parameters F2.13-F216 are adjustable to change the functions of the inputs X1 - X4

Right I've disconnected the pot for the moment and Concentrating on my on/off switch ? I've checked with my meter the switch is working, I've wired it up to com and X1, I've gone into the settings to F2-13 and changed that to number 1 and the other F2-14 to 16 are on setting 0. This has had no effect my switch still remains dead leaving the main vdf working as normal? I don't know where I'm going wrong?
