2x 16amp 240v sockets?

Have 2 Kemppi single phase welders, both ideally needing 16A supply. Have some spare outputs in the consumer unit, and wonder if it would be feasible to wire 2 16A sockets to single supply feed wire? Wont ever be using the 2 welders at the same time, but its a pain to have to keep unplugging and plugging in again every time the other one is being used.

run a radial out in 2.5mm cable in to one socket and -then to the second and fit -a c type 16 amp breaker in -db

The wires were just for clarity, obviously use twin and earth.

Easiest option is a 16amp Y splitter like this:

Or if you want to get posh, put a on-off-on changeover switch in-between the sockets so you can isolate the welders when not used too.

u still need to- fit a 16 amp socket on the wall to plug- it in to and there not designed for all- that weight. the -splitters more for using on flexible leads

I'd go for the two socket approach - those adaptors aren't very nice sticking out of the wall.

I've a grinding section in my workshop with four three phase machines (Surface Grinder, Cylindrical Grinder, Tool & Cutter grinder, and Drill Grinder) They are all fed from the same 3 phase 16 amp breaker, but from individual switched surface sockets in a daisy chain. As there is never a need to use more than one at a time there is no problem, and if I did there still wouldn't be unless all the motors started at once (which would be hard to do !)

So when you pull 30A through a socket designed for 16A....

The 32A mcb doesn't trip and you have a fire

I did think about replacing the old style ceramic re wireable style fuse with a plug in mcb i have some laying about I also should stop being a lasy sod and just extend my wires to the new CU I fitted in the garage I have a few spare ways all RCD protected I could use
