2pack clear and basecoat question

ok guys, 1st question,, ? whats the longest time you can leave base on b4 clearcoating it,,, or do you have to sand base and re base coat b4 clearing,, 2nd question? ive tryd to use gun wash thinners, in base coat and it seems ok ,, to me no diff between that and the proper 2k thinners,, or is this wrong and why? cheers peepsi

hi I don't like leaving basecoat more than a couple of hours before clearing.some paint schemes do allow 24 hours but you need to read the data sheet or speak to paint rep.i have never used cellythinners in base coat and ive been painting near on 30 years.please use proper basecoat thinner as celly can make the paint too hard and brittle which can lead to the clear coat losing adhesion after a while

Cellulose thinners is a true solvent, that breaks the molecules into smaller molecules and has no max specified, 2k solvent is a dilutant, that spreads the molecules apart, that's why there is an maximum allowed amount of thinner specified, they are 2 completely different products.
