2nd go at welding

hi guys,

got me some angle iron yesterday, mitred the edges and cleaned up with the grinder.
these are the settings i used, no gas flux cored 0.8mm clarke wire

heres a few pics, i've tried to break the weld by bashing it, but it seems to be holding ok. its nothing important, just practice.

i also had a go with all the settings on low, to weld some steel tube (the stuff off a clothes rail), but it was blown to bits.

i'm going to get a little gas reg and a little bottle of mix to try.

It's hard to tell from the photo's due to the gassless slag, but did you clean up the angle iron with a grinder before welding it? Rusty steel will cause poor welds and a lot of spatter.

Hi John, after i mitred the ends i cleaned up the welding area with the grinder until they were bright. your right about all that spatter.

i'm definitely going to have to get gas as i think welding new panels to my disco will just blow through.

I would use gas and 0.6 wire on a low setting..

OMG archie, small world, LRO forum and now here

well, i met up with rover51 a couple of weeks ago to pick up some steel rims and he pointed out a few (lots) of rust patches.

A pillar, inner wings (but i knew about them already from doing my +2" lift) little bits on boot floor, rear sill, side sills are covered by them plastic trims (im dreading them) rear arch under door catch. to mention a few.

0.6m wire and mini gas reg on order.

Thought the name was familiar Jake,

Shouldnt have bothered with the small regulator Jake, you could of got a co2 one i coiuld of met you on the M6 and give you a pub c02 bottle which you can exchange.

The co2 regulaors arnt that much more and last for a hell of a lot longer, i paid £15 for an exchange.
