2k top coat recomendations

I'm just about done spraying my bodyshell with epoxy primer and my thoughts are turning to the colour coats.

I've used Lechler Lechsys 29107 as the primer, on recomendation from this forum and I'm very happy - its went on well (allow for my noob abilities) and seems to have stuck very well indeed.

Can anyone recomended a good quality 2k colour coat system that is compatible with the Lechsys epoxy (assume most would be). There's no metallic or other special finished involved, so I will only be needing 'base' (?) colour coat (MG Old English White / Rover Arum White or similar) and don't need clear top coats or anything like that.

So recomendations for paint systems (and perhaps suppliers in NW England?) would be much appreciated.

its direct gloss you want..base would part of the clear over base system

any good brand will be fine ...depends how deep your pockets are

As Steve says, depends on how much you want to spend. If im doing a top job or metalic/mica base, i will go Sikkens or PPG Deltron but Max Mayer is a very good second best given the price. Find a local supplier and see what they offer. To eliminate confusion, refer to auto paint as Direct Gloss (no clear coat) or Clear Over Base (base colour that needs clear) Direct is usually a solid colour (non met) but COB could be metalic/mica/pearl or solid.

Lechlar or Max Meyer are good quality and good price, don't use a cheap brand as that will be just cheap paint and won't last

be worth asking if the shop can supply your colour in direct gloss , alot of paints are clear over base now regardless of colour

Shouldn't have a problem with rover Arun white I wouldn't of thought

yeah that should work , if in doubt ask for a tech sheet on what theyre offering and ask on here before buying it , some places have clueless staff others are great

I also have been looking for a topcoat to go over Lechler green TI a paint supplier recommended lechler 29155 acritop, on reading the data sheet it's for busses and commercial vehicles?
What type (acrylic/ polyurethane) 2 pack direct gloss is best for a classic car? It's all a bit confusing.

I'm planning to use the Glasurit 68 line. It's for commercial vehicles as well but talking to some people in the know, there's not much if any, difference between it and the car version.
Talked to Morellis and Glasurit and saw an old jaguar finished in it, looked great.
Coverage is supposed to be great covering in 1.5 coats!!

If you require the shine to last I would advise a decent car topcoat, Glasurit is good paint but can be spendy, I've found the Lechlar £ Max Meyer to be of equal quality but more reasonably priced.

I found the costs were similar when I phoned your recommended supplier, maybe cheaper if it covers as well as they say, though I will probably put an extra coat.

I must admit the cost of the Glasurit 68 line made me suspicious, so I asked some questions of various people and decided to go with it.

I did also consider going base and clear but the original paint is direct gloss or solid colour, so I wanted to stay with that. If it goes too flat I could put a clear over it I suppose.

Hi guys can I ask a question on your thread please? I have been looking for a safe epoxy primer for some time, by that I mean one that can be sprayed without an air fed mask. I see the information about the KD 2000 and it's activator KDA2000 but which thinners do I use with it, on the Jawel site the RU300 is £43.29 is that really the one to use?

Has anyone used the selemix 2k topcoat, it is reasonable in price but unsure of quality and suitability, there are two versions of it available and is about £80 for 5 litres

Cheap paint is exactly that !!! I've seen lots of people use cheap paint and you just don't get the quality, first thing is the colour tends to wash out
