2K Painting (single stage) problems..HELP Please UPDATED WITH PICS

Hi all ,

I have decided to paint a little ford ka ,using solid white 2k paint (Vauxhall Glacier White ) it turned out pretty nice ,and it is glossy but not as glossy as I would like ,it needs more depth ,the reflection is kind of hazy ..

How do I get a good shine that I can see myself in from a few feet away ? Also got a few runs here and there whats the best way to get them out ?

do a search on google for colour sanding and polishing.
if you need paper then try either 3M or Megiars Unigrit.

hi gary sounds like you may have some overspray or the paint hasnt gone on quite right as for the runs you can flat them out using wet n dry
you can try polishing the car with faracla g3 or similar but it will be hard work without a machine if that isnt really sucsesful you could try flatting it first with 1000 gritt then polishing

once its hardened off , a gentle wet flat with some 1500/2000 then buff back the shine with a machine buffer

for runs , slice off the worst with a new razor blade and then 1200 wet , followed by 1500/2000 then polish. theres a good chance you might sand through if youve not done it before

Hey , I do have a dewalt buffer and some g3 lying around ,how long should I compound each panel ? and If I start with 800 grit ,then 1000,then 1500 or 2000 how long should I be wet sanding each panel for ?

you would only wet flat until the surface was smooth but too much and you rub through

So ,am i only flatting til its perfectly smooth? why do I need to go up through the range of grits? and after compounding with g3 what should I do next ?

you'l wear through the paint if you do that

use 1200 as the coarsest grit , its only really needed for savage peel /runs

if you can get away with it use 1500/2000 only, and only sand enough to remove the peel , remember to stay away from edges and swage lines

Here is how the paint currently looks ,not a very good photo as it looks shiney with the sun hitting it ,but if you get closer the finish is hazy ...

Did you get the primer coat perfectly smooth and flatted down before spraying the top coats?

A light rub with the 1500 then just buff with G3 on a foam buffer. Look on youtube for farecla promotional video for some idea of what you should be doing.

Ok ,I have wet sanded with 1200,then 2000 grit and its shiny but not as shiny as I would like...Can single stage paint be clearcoated ? I was going to do this ,then wet sand it and buff it. Would this give me the gloss that I am looking for ?

Meant to say ,the paint now feels like glass after wet sanding and buffing ,just not happy with the overall shine , it could be deeper! So would clearcoat be a good idea?

white or lighter colours never give a really deep shine where as darker colours do

you could clear coat it , doubt it will look much better than properly applied and polished single layer

white isnt never gona look as nice as darker colours
