25x25mm

got some 25x25mm box section just wondering which type of welding would be better I have a stick set up and most of a tig which can use.

Looking to make a trike frame for drift trike maybe put an engine on it later on. Could do with being sturdy if you guys have any advice

What thickness is the inch box section.

You can build a kit car from 1.6mm wall, I prefer 2mm. OK changed there from imperial to metric I know but I work in both, a lot of steel stock was/is imperial.

I would have suggested MIG, but if you have TIG and Stick for thin wall up to 3mm I would suggest you use TIG, would be slower but I think better than Stick.

just my thoughts.

Do you have plans to work off or is it a make it up as you go?

Unsure on thickness I will check and I was just going to let it out. Was a sort or ratty look to it is going use a wheelbarrow as the seat and try get a mountain bike frontend with the steam and off that with forks

I've welded 25x25x3mm box with a stick welder - 3.2mm rods at about 90a indicated - bit of a struggle at times.

Id go for mig or tig for preference.

Mig would be my choice but only because I have one. It can be welded just as well with a stick welder & 2.5mm rods - I built a car trailer & several other projects using a sealey buzz box & nothing has fell apart yet!

The tig would be very slow but you might find it useful for joining up the thinner steel of the bike frame.

2.5mm or above you'll be fine with stick. Try running 2.5 electrode.

Hoping something like this but with box section. I'll find the thickness and try a 2.5 rod on scrap pieces first

Now admittedly I'm a fat , but will that frame not flex massively if you stand in the middle of it?

pretty similar looking to a kart frame and they flex but the trick is making them flex the right amount

Don't know but guessing that for drifting you want rigid

I would have thought box was less suitable as it will have different strengths depending on the direction force is applied and therefore more likely to kink or crack
