250 amp Mig

Is 12mm the limit of a 250 amp Mig with full penetration. T fillet flat 3 runs, is that a safe assumption,?

well mine runs on 0.8 wire atm and quite happily penetrates 10mm plate with a slight weld prep no problem with one pass. I recon itd have no bother with 12mm on 1.0 wire, although i dont think it has the umph for 1.2, but i may be wrong.

But you can't prep a T fillet, beveling of a plate to form a t joint is over the top isn't it?

Not really, when the edge of a plate is beveled in a tee set up the joint becomes a beveled tee butt joint, double or single as shown, common enough on heavy work, or where the fillet would be in the way of something else.
Sometimes this joint is incorrectly referred to as a single or double vee fillet, but the fillet is the weld, not the joint type.

yes i suppose it could prove useful if the welds were in the way of something else. that single v tee butt would be tricky enough joint to perform with m.m.a in above position ^ in terms of slag removal and visibility. Back to O.P 12mm is about the limits of a 250 amp mig in T butt, 3 passes, assuming full penetration or am i asking to much of the mig?
