24vDC speed controler sparkey in need of help

Wasn't sure where to bung this so put in project as it is Clarke transformer burnt out the other day so time to get the Migatrinic working. Have sorted and wired the clarke as a feed unit into the migatronic (which was missing feed assembly bits and controller) And fitted a 24VDC power pack into the clarke with the intention of feeding the feed motor through existing speed controler but no joy only have full speed the nob will only verery by 1V. So in need of speed controler and one got a schuimatic for one?

found a 15V one but not 24V would 15V be fast enough?

Depends what the motor needs for speed range, just make sure it's got enough current behind it as well.
Some one was experimenting with speed control - Drains or Malcolm? try a bit of searching or Shenion might give you a few pointers.

it was running very fast on full 24V even with MIG set on max voltage

30Amps!! - certainly got the current, haven't got a clue what HHO is so don't know.

was thinking of "Over clocking" the maplin one. With proper cooling etc it should survive

Do the clarkes use the same speed contol as the sips, or do they only half wave rectify the DC to the motor ?

i thing they half wave as there was no connection from refityer to control board on DC side. I have removed the transformer as it was dead and plat to use the Clarke as a wire feed unit. Have installed a 24Vdc power pack

If the control board is expecting a pulsed 12v dc , a 24v DC supply would be a lot more voltage.

that's true. Wonder if it regulates the gap rather than the pulse

If it is like the Sips it is a series voltage regulator with a resistive reference.
With no zener, it would just regulate as a percentage of the input voltage.
It would have no timed on or off states, like a PWM has.

update on progress. Got the speed controller yesterday and got built last night. After working this morning i got it fitted into the Clarke along with a 24VDC contractor and got it all wired up. Works a treat much nicer to weld with that the old clarke! Finished of the blister pack or 0.8mm and got a 5KG roll fitted seams to be procession would and runs off a lot nicer. Made a stand for the chop saw and was pleased with the look of the welds.
