2016 Dacia Sandero Stepway 0.9

We got one because it was cheaper than fixing the Skoda.
Id not buy one outright or look at keeping it longer than its warranty, you get the feeling it'll ping apart like a clown car the night the warranty expires.
Its basic the plastics are all like a comercial from 10 yrs ago hinges etc are al weedy affairs compared to Skoda or even Citroen items.
Performance isnt great( and i drive a 2cv) but so far it does what you want, it starts, it drives you get 4 people in it and it gets you there ( which is more than we ever got from the "VWQuality" of the Skoda and its cursed DPF)

Look at how many beat up old twingo's are floating around France, if the stepway is as well screwed together as your average French spermini and they survive French farmers, I think we'll be good. 10yr old commercial plastics are fine, she's used to lada samara's and a 20 year old 180k mile civic.

She basically has no care for what the car is like - it just has to work.

Just got back from a test drive and a good look around - it's actually bloody good for the money. Interior is functional and simple, engine is nice, gearbox and brakes are decent. Drives like a new car, which I guess it should at 25k miles.

I probably have low standards as I drive a 185k mile transit van, but I'd have one.

Have a look at the big car supermarkets. Mate was considering buying a car rather than another mobility lease so we went to Available car in Cannock and was pleasantly surprised. A lot of the cars seem to be ex mobility. Loads with just token miles even at 3 years old ! 12-18month old cars that were 50% of new price common.

skodas ummm i'm never haveing another one they just arn't cheep enough compared to the equivalent vw. theory says mecanicaly there the same but i've owned a lot of high mialage vw's and audis and wanged them up to silly miles with few problems. ive bought a few skodas with lower miles thinking i'll spend a bit more and have less trim in return for getting more miles out of it and less bother and got quite the opposite, as it's mostly mecanical issues i had wth skodas i came to the conclusion it must be to do with previous owners.

my current belif is that the owners of the vw and audis payed plenty for the car in the first place and didnt mind spending on it what it needed serviceing ect ( serviced to within an inch of the right end of its life ). the skoda owners in general i guess wanted the vw or audi but didnt want to pay that sort of money so bought the skoda but also really didnt want to spend anything on it so probaly only seviced when it had to be or it stoped ( serviced to within an inch of the wrong end of is life )

1.9 TDI ALH in a vw, or audi will do mega miles with no problems and know of meany with full history passing 250 K miles no problems. however skodas with same engine rattel rattel clatter bang thump. youd think the engine was a lemon cylinder head, camshaft, hydralic tappet, turbo replacements a plenty lurking in the history. so that sort of says treart it right it'll treat you right

Ours was the all new Skoda engine ,we wanted the old fabia with the old VW'bubble block' 1.9, trouble is Skoda had run out ( practically every minicab in the uk was a skoda!)
So they let us have the all new Fabia 2 for the same price.....never own a first gen engine your just the guinneapig. Had dpf re gen issues from the first year, which eventually lead to burnt injectors and a fuel dump bending 2 con rods. "Fair wear and tear" at <50k which wasnt even first service on the old 1.9.
Keeping on topic so pleased with the Dacha, she has convinced her dad to chop in his old VW Sharan for a Stepway, hes delighted with it.

They sold that one earlier today before I had a chance to pop down with mum. She likes it though so I'm on the hunt for another one now...

Got one, 14 plate, 11 thousand miles... Bottom spec, just what we were looking for.
