Going to view one on Sunday for my daughter, her first car. Doesn’t matter that it’s not the fastest or anything like that. Going through the MoT history it’s never had any serious advisories, tyres getting near the limit and exhaust getting past it. Exhaust must of been done as it never got a mention at last years MoT. So looks to have been reasonably looked after. It has recently, Sept, had new discs and pads all round. I know from reading on here the coil pack can cause issues. Anything else about them that is worth looking at closely and asking about?

They are generally good cars from my experience, Service history is reasonably important. Also I only buy if the seller seems genuine/honest

At high mileage or lack of sereviving can compromise cam chain and can stretch. Besides that cracking cars

The reviews I have read are ok but they say that Corsas and Fiestas are better but I like VW cars. The daughter likes this shape of polo. Will get a feeling for the seller when we are there

Cam chains are the biggest failure on these - not a cheap job to rectify.

Chain swap is side of the engine and sump off.
Not horrendous but time consuming.

On 64k wouldn't be worried about it. Just keep oil changes regular.

Yep it is a early 6r shape one.
Very nice cars to drive.
Either that or the ibiza would be the cars of choice.

Just back from viewing it. Very clean, serviced yearly, nice to drive, daughter likes it. Downside nearside front wheel bearing is really noisy, not a big job. Sons going to price a new bearing/hub through his work.They want £3500 for it, wouldn’t budge. Said we would have a think about it and get back to them. I feel the price is to high, pretty much the top of the price range. Will walk away if a deal I like isn’t forth coming

Bearings are a gen 2 setup and need a correct press pull tool to get in correctly.

Bearing itself won't be the killer. (£60)
The tool or specialist to do the job will probably cost more.

Can get a new hub with bearing for £80ish. Probably the way we’ll go if we buy it

Walking away from this one. Wouldn’t budge on the price even though stuff was needing done. Oh well, what’s meant for you won’t get by you.
