20,000 rpm bearings

Hi guys

I would like to change the bearings in my die grinder

There are four bearings in total
One set is a WIB R6ZZ

Other set is Germany GMN 607

The unit spins at 18,000 rpm

Obviously the bearings need to be quality and long lasting

Any idea where to find these or a quality replacement brand

No idea where you are, but I would wander down to my local bearing stockist, Spen Bearings.

Strange that ones imperial, the other metric though.

a quick google of the part numbers and they look pretty cheap anyway

I normally stick with SKF for decent bearings

as above, walk into a decent bearings place and they'll know the right ones off the top of their head

But I aint convinced your standard run off the mill bearings are going to cut the mustard

18,000 rpm is quite high

Normal electric motor spins at 1440

There is a lot off side loading on a die grinder

what machine is it for get some of the manufactures if u dont trust the local bearing suppliers

Have a look on 'Simply Bearings' website. They're in Leigh near Wigan.
Put the sizes you require in their search box and it'll bring up all the various bearings in that size they they have available.
I use them for the bearings on the end of my air belt sander.

Look at what the local bearing suppliers have to offer and note down the makers name and the bearing number. A quick google check on the makers website should give the running spec's.

I put bog standard bearings in my electric die grinder once and they quickly got too hot to hold it! You probably want unshielded and oil lubed, definitely not cheap, metal shielded.

Small bearings have high speed limits anyway. NTN has that R6ZZ as 31k for grease and 37k for oil lube. 18K is just idling

As said above, it's best to try a local bearing supplier, if you have, or can find, one. They'll usually offer several ranges, from "economy" to "premium". In this case, you'll want premium. There are a few high-end bearing manufacturers. I generally go for SKF for important stuff, though I'll not turn my nose up at NTN, FAG, NSK, INA, or a few others.

If you can, take the old bearings in to your local supplier and ask for (premium) equivalents. The bit you pay the premium for is the quality control. It's very difficult to be sure you are not buying fakes online and your only real guarantee of the real thing is to buy from a supplier whose reputation has vastly more value than the extra profit to be made by punting out a few cheap knockoff bearings at premium prices.

At work, we tend to buy from either Eriks or Brammer, with RS as a last resort if we need them quick and are prepared to pay their prices. I've bought bearings online for home projects from BearingBoys and I can't fault them. I've not used Simply Bearings personally, but I've heard pretty good things about them.

Take a really close look at the bearings you've taken out. There's an outside chance they'll be C3 bearings: with a slightly increased radial clearance for applications (like electric motors) where they run warm for long periods (continuously), and will be marked accordingly. If C3 bearings are appropriate, they will have been fitted at manufacture and you'll want C3 replacements. If they were not fitted at manufacture, you don't want C3 replacements.

they are built slightly loose...
similar bearings used in extreme cold climates for normal tools......
