to get me to the finnishing post in my sthils ive used regular 10/40 before today with no ill effects, this i know for certain as i repair and re-build all my own power tools including petrol enginesWhat grade of oil exactly is it, and are there any other common oils that you could use in an emergency in place of it ?
long term i agree but the OP states in an emergencyIt used to be straight 30 grade when I was a lad. I wouldn't risk anything other than 2 stroke oil in modern two stroke engines as it may separate out from the petrol.

only iff it would get you homeI've never had a life or death scenario involving use of my chainsaw or Lambretta without suitable oil
i have a norton and u cant run them on modern oils because they have a detergent in it that loosens all the crap in the engine and the bike only has a gauze oil filter. it can ruin the bronze and white metal bearings . ive fitted an external screw on modern filter and now can run it on modern multigrade oils
Castrol R is always an alternative even if it's just for the nostalgia factor.
