Years ago, there was an attachment you could buy for a Myford lathe called a 'big turn'. It did the same job. I think it had a gear on a 2MT arbor that went in the spindle, that drove the gear on the raised headstock. You had to run the main spindle in reverse to get the tall spindle to go forward.
