I have been painting parts of a 97 silver car. This is my first painting project.
Due a residential position I had to give 2k iso a miss.
I have been using upol smart 1k clear.
Paint blending has gone well once I gained the required understanding blend area has to be half a panel or there abouts.
So first half successful.
Use of clear.
A couple of light coats essential, before not to heavy coats. Light coats need to have flashed well. The 1k can run or worse cook the base coat causing metalic flakes to streak.
However, once you have the measure not difficult to put on.
Blending is easy, I tried putting it on as if blending a base coat and also by dusting the edges with a 10/90 clear/reducer mix.
Both ways worked with no physical edges between old and new.
Found hand polishing worked best after gentle flatting off.
so result is home spraying is no problem with practice and some must do's
Well, almost.....
one more hurdle exists. The clear creates a darker tone to the existing finish.
The full panels look great and polish nicely but do take on a darker tint, not glaringly different.
The clear blended areas do stand out except for very narrow areas
I expect this would be less the.darker the base colour is.
Next I have bought a different brand of 1k clear to try.
