Old Rotary welders detached from their original electric motor or modern engine driven welders alternators are commonly modified to be drag by a pto over her in Italy .
I believe that you might find an engine driven with a faulty engine and modify it very cheaply to solve your task .
I wouldn't use 200A units , bigger the better

Not knowingly.

But I have seen welders that went in/on the back of tractors in several local farms. And maxarc is a localish company.
I was wondering about stcking one on the front of my landy.

Yup
540rpm or 1000 rpm is the norm.

Top idea, but I don't own a tractor. Work has one.

I've a wide and varied selection of diesel engines to hand.

A decent welding set without being plugged in would be well useful.

I can't see it any other way, with a generator for a grinder or two.
