1930s Roof tiles seem to be slightly narrower than modern 165mm ones?

Does anyone know about roof tile sizes? I bought some 165mm wide modern clay tiles, but even when butted against each other the 50% overlap pattern starts to fall out of sync with the old row of tiles. The old tiles measure about 162mm, so a small but significant difference of 3mm.

I spoke to my local tile supplier and they reckon 165mm is all that's available.

The roof is old and needs replacing but I can't afford it. There's one serious leak and I just need to change a square metre of tiles.

Just dot the new tiles about the roof and fill the effected area with existing old tiles that you take out..they can be stretched with a trowel in the vertical joints...there are many clay tiles old and new that seem to be there own in-house size

I have to cut my slates to size as I can't find them, admittedly they're not tiles.

i managed to score 60 spare slates the same size as mine for free

always someone on evil-bay throwing them out for next to noting it seems. Mine are 1930s...they have the maker stamped on the back.

I had to cut a replacement down by a cm last week where one had slid out after the tabs broke. I used a diamond blade in my grinder which did an ok job running it back and forth until it cut through

The small amount you want to cut off might be easier with a standard diamond tile saw as you could set a guide up to make them easily repeatable

reclaimed ones do seem to break and slide out fairly regularly (probably age and the stress of being removed,transported and refitted)

Edit: they do make a lot of red dust though so watch where you do it

Just had quite a few slates replaced on our 1935 roof. Roofer had to cut the new ones down so does sound like sizings have changed. As others say, Ebay, Gumtree, reclamation yard, is the way to go, but what a pain for a small area.
