16A Circuit Breaker

Can any of the electrically educated forum members advise if this circuit breaker would be suitable for a welder? Is it a b, c or d type breaker? I'm asking as this is installed at the moment, the welder is used on a seperate 3 phase circuit but just wondering would the breaker be suitable for single phase welders.

looks like a c type to me but cant be sure i worked as an electrician for a few years and we only used clipsal gear or HPM if clipsal wasn't availaible. c type is usually reserved for domestic purposes and d and b for industrial applications but that doesnt really concern you 16amp will be fine for a single phase welder provided it is on a dedicated circuit by itself also cant be sure of the laws regarding electrical work over there if i was doing it over here i would put in a 15 amp outlet on a 20 amp breaker hope this helps

yeah thats what i thought aswell as i said im in australia so cant be sure of what breakers they have over there if in doubt i would go down to the local electrical supply store and ask there advise would definitley not be buying cheap stuff of ebay

Nice find, so it looks like it's between a c and a d type breaker which should be fine for a single phase welder. The wiring would be good going to it.

Thinking back to when I was doing fitting and fabbing they were used on the hydraulic circuits on the line. Gave sightly more inrush than a C type to account for the fluid being more viscous on cold winter mornings.
