15Kg 0.8mm m/steel wire

Evening all,

Yesterday, I finished a reel of 0.8mm wire. It's only taken about 5 years to put it through my Portamig 211!

I've had a look on weldequip, and there aren't any 15Kg reels listed. I wonder if that's due to the shipping weight making it uneconomical?

What's a reccommended brand to go for? I'm not interested in sticking cheap wire in, it's got to be reasonably good to put up with sitting on the welder for so long.

I have Lincoln Electric and Hobart wire that has been sitting in my damp garage for years. Still looks like new.

You might email weldequip, he may carry the larger reels. The web site is a subset of what he sells. The Lincoln UltraMAG ( SupraMIG L-56 here) wire he has is good.

Yup, I have done, but I thought it was worth asking what's considered good wire too. Because I buy it so rarely I don't know what's current.

We have ESAB wire in the maint. welder, normally takes a couple of years to use the 15kg reel.

I get through about three reels 15kg of Murex wire a year, layer wound and comes on a metal spool not one of the plastic ones that break if you look at them wrong, fairly cheap as well.
Fetching them from 12 miles away on a pushbike is a pain, these days i get them delivered.

id say run 5 K reels if 15k has lasted you 5 years

I was in the same boat a while back

If you put "murex 15kg" into eBay you should find what you want.

It works out to about £7 a year.
