12v Surge protectors

Do they work? Or are you still better to disconnect the battery?
Got one i picked up from a tool 'market stall' thing for a couple of quid, draper i think.
Haven't had any use for it yet, but with 2 old golfs in for mot's in the next week, i can see i will have!

I've always used my cheapy draper on vw's ,,,,,haven't had a problem yet ,....and so did the guys who used to repair my cars going back before computers, or disconnect the earth lead ,there are different views nowdays but before engine management systems and forums ,its the way i was told to protect diode packs etc ...Gav

I never said you wouldn't fry an ecu ,just that i haven't as yet .......but right or wrong i always use the surge protector without incident
