I put them on a separate circuit, you'd be surprised how easy it is to park the car up with a indicator still going if you don't ( even if you haven't ever left them on in the past) If hazards are fitted they have to be on a permanent live.

made sense to me. Is there a difference between an indicator and a hazard relay given I have in my particular application 2x 21w (+warning light) and 4x21w (+warning light)

Hazards are normally on the permanent live feed (Purple in british cars) along with interior light, horn , etc.
Indicators are on auxiliary feed from ignition switched supply (Green) along with wipers etc.

A modern electronic relay can do indicators and hazards, the clever/complicated bit is wiring the hazard switch!
The relay normally has 3 connections 31 - ground, 49 - supply in & 49a - flash out.

Yes, the clever bit is the hazard switch itself, when operated it disconnects the ignition switched live and supplies a permanent feed to the relay and connects the relay (flashing) output to the left and right indicators.

I would imagine that the ignition switch supplies the power for indicators and the hazard switch will have a permanent live
